The Sunraysia music scene was alive and well in the 60’s & 70’s, with the Ballerina being the place to hang out at on a Saturday night. One of the most popular bands at the time was the trio “Hush“. The members were Phil Bowen – guitar & vocals, John Eames – bass & vocals and Ian Brown – drums. In this weeks show we interview two of the band members and alongside that we have some sounds and images from back in 1971. The guys do an unplugged version of one of their songs as well as a finale to our show.
Our festival images come from a Rock Festival held in Berri in 1971. The video clip from the same year, was part of a pilot episode of a show called Rock produced at STV8 by John Flemming and hosted by Peter Davies.

How fabulous to hear Phil and John with this interview. Mildura certainly has so much talent. They are still going strong with local band The BluesBerries
Hi Ian,
I love the work you have done with all the footage and putting together the frames of history.
Just wondering if there is any other photos or videos of other Mildura bands around that time performing at Berri or from the heats of Hoadley’s battle of the sounds from 1970 at the Ballarina?
Yes many bands including the one I was in Cyners (pronounced Sinners). We came along after the Avengers – if you don’t remember Gloria you weren’t there!. We were John Kairn, Derek Pritchard, Peter Woods, John Kairn and I. We eventually won the Hoadley’s Battle of the Sounds. The Magic Apple were our contemporaries. Plenty of photos from that time some of which are at: https://www.eganfamily.id.au/EganFamily/Family/GregsRecreation/Music/index.html
