Beyond the irrigation settlements of Sunraysia, north of the Murray and alongside the Darling, land was opened up and developed for a variety of purposes. In today’s epiosde we speak with Terry Hill who was raised on a sheep station called Netherby, that was developed by his grandfather and it’s still in Terry’s hands today.

Terry Hill had a major impact on the local wine grape industry with the Buronga Hill winery being built from scratch to crushing up to 100,000 tonnes in later vintages. Would be a good story.
Thanks. Yes I am aware of Terry’s involvement in the wine industry and we’ve discussed recording a show in the future.
The Mathews family referred to by John Sutcliff in the Hi Bell episode would also make a great story. Both Alan & Sunraysia Air Taxis and his son Tony and his journey.
I was at MHS with Tony and whilst we were all on L plates learning to drive a car, usually under a parents supervision, he was flitting around the skies.
In the 60’s most of us had never been in an aeroplane let alone even dream of flying one.
I learnt to fly much later in life and the Aero Club instructor, the late Jack Funnell would often quote the way that Tony did things when trying to teach me something.
Thanks Peter – will surely follow that up.
