STV8 Memories

Having started my career at STV8, over the years I’ve collected a number of photos, film clips and other items that relate to the early days of the station. Here they are along with a few comments about each item to wrap up our celebration of the 60th anniversary of the opening of the station. I hope you find it interesting – Ian Mac

Well, that brought back some fond memories. As a young journalist with Sunraysia Daily next door to STV8 from 1965, our team was also responsible for the news bulletins (as well as 3MA radio) so it was a hectic time. Some of the attempts at in-the-field news interviews, retrieved from the cutting room floor, are very funny indeed! The television era documented here was ground-breaking stuff for regional Australia. I miss those days!

Well done, Ian. Your amazing skills and enthusiasm for preserving Sunraysia history is to be commended and will be appreciated in the many years forward.

Great work Ian! Indebted to the wonderful Max Foley for giving me my start in TV and cinematography at the beginning of STV8. It was a steep learning curve and lots of fun working with all the great people mentioned in your clip as well as some of those in the comments thread.

Loving the history of STV8. Such a huge part of my childhood and a tragedy the local TV got railroaded by big city stations.
