This 1993 STV / WIN news footage covered the official opening in Red Cliffs of the Erica Court flats for senior citizens. These days Erica Court is part of the Bert Thomas Flats Complex. Bert Thomas was a well loved Red Cliffs identity who served his career as a policeman, court welfare officer and was Shire President. While serving on the shire council, Bert became aware of the need for accommodation for elderly citizens in Red Cliffs and when the Methodist Church property in Heath St became available, he arranged for it’s purchase and commenced initial planning. The first flats were built in 1983 and after his death the complex was named in his memory. Our footage shows Cr Maffei, Shire President at the time, officially opening this addition in 1993.
