Another great combination of Mildura’s film history. Firstly a Cinesound Review of the 1949 Queen of the Murray competition followed by color footage of the same event filmed by Mildura’s Frank Jenner.
We’ve tried hard to name all 15 contestants in the event but have only been able to come up with about half. The place winners Esther Bridley (Red Cliffs), Betty Manns (Kerang) and Gwen Storer (Merbein).
The names of others we have are Iris Ashcroft (Mildura), Barbara Tindall (Renmark), Peggy Wilson (Berri), Marjori Nolan (Barmera) and Lorna Graetz (Loxton). Other contestants in 1949 came from Dareton, Wentworth, Albury, Cohuna, Kerang, Swan Hill and Murray Bridge. If you can name any of the ladies we’d love to hear from you.
Judges on the day were Mr L Waterman and Mr W Sheehan from 20th Cent Fox.
