As part of looking back over 100 years in the life of Coomealla / Dareton, here’s some STV8 news footage taken across a decade on the subject of the Dareton Police station. Originally located in a house, renovations were carried out in 1983 and our first news story gives us details of that renovation to double the size of the station.
Our second news story from 1993 doesn’t have a sound track and so we’re guessing as to what the story was about. As there’s footage of Wentworth as well, it’s been suggested that it may be in relation to the fact that around that time the police stations at Gol Gol and Wentworth would start to scale down, when a decision was made to centralise operations out of Dareton. Eventually the building in Dareton that we see in these clips would be vacated and larger newer premises occupied from November 1995
