Before the Lights

Those of us who grew up in Mildura took using the intersections along Deakin Ave in our stride. But by 1974 discussion had no doubt started about the installation of traffic lights. In this news footage taken on a wet day in 1974, we can see just how skillful we’d all become at either crossing the Deakin Ave on foot or navigating our car through. It’s obvious why authorities found the need for the signals that were eventually installed.
