Psyche Bend Pumping Station

The Psyche Bend Pumping Station is a marvelous facility that joins the present to the past in Sunraysia. This film clip from 2009, outlines the enormous amount of work that was applied in order to bring the pump and plant back to original condition by the Sunraysia Steam Preservation Society. This is a remake of an earlier film commissioned by the FMIT in 1996 and has been kept safe by the Mildura and District Historical Society.

How amazing had Lori that was fantastic to watch thank you so so much. I’ll watch it again tomorrow. Maurie Wedlake put a lot of hours into that restoration and still works on them so Ben pumps even today thank you for that.

My father was an apprentice watchmaker in Renmark South Australia, just over the border form Mildura. In 1931 due to the effects of the Great Depression, his employer had to sack him. His father, my Grandfather, forced him to leave home in search of work. He walked to Mildura and went to the Police Station
The Sargeant allowed him to sleep in the cells, and found him a job cutting mallee timber for the boiler at Psyche Bend pumping station. The work was very hard and food was short, and eventually he took ill and was hospitalised forcing his father to have to travel to Mildura in the horse and sulky to take him home. So my family has a little bit of history at Psyche Bend also. A marvellous piece of Australian history.
